Typically, a chief medical officer will take charge of overseeing the team of medical professionals at a facility, ensuring they provide valid and safe medical services. They are often tasked with the creation and implementation of training programs and new policies, along with communication with senior management and key stakeholders in relation to the progress of the organization. In Pharmaceutical and Biotech companies, the chief medical officer (CMO) is generally in charge of the company's clinical research arm, and is responsible for the company's development strategy and the design and conduct of clinical trials. In a small biotech company such as Trek, the CMO is also in charge of drug discovery and pre-clinical development.
To be successful, chief medical officers must be experienced and talented leaders who are capable of overseeing large teams of educated professionals.
